Wings Global Travel has appointed Gary Povey as chief operating officer, the TMC announced on Thursday (5 October).
An industry veteran, Povey has close to 30 years’ experience in business travel, most recently as executive vice president, global sales at Navan Group-owned TMC Reed & Mackay. He has also held sales and management roles at Expedia-owned Traveldoo, American Express Global Travel, Omega World Travel and InterContinental Hotels Group.
In his new role, Povey will be tasked with driving growth strategy and leading “the continued expansion” of the London-based TMC, which specialises in corporate travel for investment banking, professional services, energy, marine and industrial clients. Povey will report to Wings chief executive officer Tony Sofianos.
Povey said: “Wings has built a highly successful business by focusing on wholly owned operations wherever it does business, which has enabled it to maintain consistently high standards of service and a loyal client base.
“Wings also understands the importance of blending high tech with high touch service, which will be crucial as we go forward. My role will be to build on these foundations to identify the top- and bottom-line strategies for accelerated growth.”
Wings CEO Tony Sofianos added that he and Povery “share the same vision” for the company and “the same appreciation of the challenges facing the industry, including the need to harness technology, stay focused on people and drive sustainability”.
Wings is ranked as the 16th largest TMC in the UK according to BTN Europe’s Leading TMCs 2023 report.
