Travel technology firm Amadeus saw its airline bookings through its GDS recover to nearly 70 per cent of pre-Covid sales in 2022.
The Madrid-based company said GDS air bookings reached 68.3 per cent of 2019 levels last year to reach a total of 396 million sales, with the North America region overtaking Europe as Amadeus’ largest region for flight bookings with a share of 30.8 per cent.
Amadeus’ total revenue from flight sales added up to €2.15 billion in 2022, which was down by 27 per cent compared with 2019’s revenue but also represented a doubling of 2021’s performance.
Luis Maroto, president and CEO of Amadeus, said 2022 had been a “strong year” for the company, as it returned to an annual profit.
“Global air traffic continued to recover, and we had important customer wins and market share gains during the year,” added Maroto. “We remained highly focused on our investment plans, particularly to support customer implementations and advance in key strategic areas. Our financial performance strengthened considerably.
“Looking ahead, we are optimistic about the future of the travel industry and the opportunity for Amadeus. Into 2023, as volumes recover, our financial performance is expected to advance further.”
Amadeus made an adjusted profit of €742.2million in 2022, compared with a loss of €44.7million in the previous year. Although, 2022’s profit was still more than 40 per cent lower than achieved by the company in 2019. Group revenue rose by 68 per cent year-on-year to reach €4.5 billion in 2022.
